Preliminary OCR Task Evaluation

In our Preliminary task, we choose to focus on doing an action scene. The short film involved two school girls who were uncovered as agents within the college community. There are known as 003 and 004.

The camera shots we used within the short film where close ups, over the shoulder, high and low shots and long shots. However we found that some of the clips we filmed were a bit shaky, such as the clip where Agent 004 is running down the stairs, this clip was very shaky. We also found that our audio was very crackly due to a fault in the recorder, some parts of the audio are clear when others are very crackly and muffled. We found at the end of editing our preliminary task to have many faults in, and we did not have enough time to edit it to a high standard.

Though out the filming of the task we wrote up a script to follow along.
Maddie- Agent004

Mary- Agent003

Alone in a room Maddie is sitting at desk on Ipad, to anyone she looks like a normal college student. But to certain people she is part of a secret agency. Maddie or Agent 004 as she is known looks around suspiciously before sending a text to Mary, a fellow Agent 003. Camera is on mid shot, capturing the actor sitting at the desk with the Ipad in front of them.
Mary/Agent 003 gets the text and the camera zooms into Extreme close up of the phone.
Mary/Agent 003 looks around, before running off down the empty corridor and slams though a door. The door slowly slams behind her, the mission impossible music cuts in, and a long shot/ over the shoulder of the actor running. Then a close up of the door slamming behind actor.
Mary/Agent 003 runs down a set of stairs before glancing around, she then finds the room and attempts to cartwill, but fails, into the open door, and into the room she glances around and spots Maddie before standing up straighter and dusts herself off before crossing the room to sit in font of Maddie/Agent 004 who glances up at her fellow Agent.

Mary/Agent 003

(singsong voice)
 "I'm hereeeeee"
(exaggerate on the here)

Maddie/Agent 004

(Shushes Mary)
“Quiet, you'll blow our cover”
(Annoyed tone)

Mary/Agent 003

"Ahhh"
(Taps nose and winks)

Maddie/Agent 004

(Rolls her eyes before leaning across the table)
“Well you're hear now so listen. Everything about us and this mission is not this device. Guard it with your life 003.”
(Serious tone)

(Agent 004  slips Ipad across to Agent 003)

Mary/Agent 003

“Don't worry you can trust me”
(winks, and goes to stand but stumbles and drops the device. Looks up with a sheepish smile)

Maddie/Agent 004

(sighs)
“It's going to be long mission”

We followed the script exactly word for word. However we did change a few things. One example was the character Maddie was changed due to the original actress not being available to be apart of our piece. she was replaced by another girl called Chloe.

To conclude this evaluation, I think we could have done a lot better with our preliminary task. When we starting our main task, I think we really need to get more advanced with our camera shots, and editing.

Preliminary task (Dolly and Slider)

The dolly is one of the most famous tools of a filmmaker’s trade, used to move the camera in a shot. A studio dolly is a huge piece of equipment, normally heavy enough to hold the camera, camera operator and an assistant while pushed or pulled by a pair of grips. This is a vital piece of equipment in any large film and serves an important purpose but can be impossible to use for some filmmakers.

The disadvantages of the Dolly is that the tripod can fall out the dolly, which can cause damage to the camera.

The slider is a new form of a dolly type piece of filmmaking equipment. While dollys are complicated, often heavy, pieces of equipment, sliders have come into popularity thanks to the advent of smaller, lightweight digital cameras.
A camera slider consists of a metal base with two rails. A carriage sits atop and rides along these rails. Oftentimes, wheels are used under the carriage to ensure smooth movement with little friction. When properly constructed, the sliders offer perfectly balanced friction, quiet operation, a wide stance and no oil is ever needed to keep it running smoothly.

Now, the biggest disadvantage to the camera slider is that it is meant for short shots. If you plan on utilizing an extremely long dolly shot, covering a lot of space, the camera slider is not for you. In those cases, it is better to lay the tracks and prepare to move the large dolly around the room for your shot. However, for small shots of around 30 seconds of less, the camera slider will work great.

OCR Preliminary Task

Music Magazine Front Cover

After taking my pictures of this magazine I choose my favourite, and the one I thought looked the most professional.  After placing the photo into Photo shop I then decided to shrink the photo down, as it was too big for my cover and remove the plain background.

After shrinking the picture down to a respectful size for a magazine I then removed the background by using the easer tool. I then quickly went over the photo with the blemish remover, just to give it a little shine. After that I went onto google and looked up 'Light Blue Background' and found the prefect one. So I copied it and pasted it into Photoshop, playing the layer under the first layer, so that it would go behind it. I then used the free transformation to make the background bigger.

After sorting out my background I then decided on the name of My magazine. After choosing, I used the text tool and and ragged it up to the top of the cover and wrote in the name. I chose to use wide lain regular as my font ,and the size as 479.26. The colour I choose is a pale pink. I chose to use pastel colours as my colour scheme as I think they irk well together andPink and Blue are on different ends of the spectrum.
After doing my mast head, I then placed a barcode at the bottom left hand corner.

I next added in my main heading. Since I used Ashleigh as my model, I choose to use her name in my magazine by making her a upcoming young singer who had been voted the Uk's best new young singer. Hence why she was on the cover. I choose to make the size big, but not as big as the mast head, but big enough so that it still stood out. I choose to use the colour scheme of Black and a darker pink for the subheading, as I think they worked well together.
The second subheading, i placed it on Ashleigh's top, and since that then made the background Black, I chose to use Dark pink and then a lighter pink for the font colour of the text.

I then added more subheading in, and a tangent line. The tangent line is there to sell the magazine ,ore by persuading people that it's one of the bets magazines to have. I also added in a price just above the barcode.

This is my final product. Overall I'm rather happy with my final cover. I think that the magazine reaches the target audience of Teenage girls who are into music and gossip. I think the colour scheme works well, as it it bright and colourful which is what the magazine is trying to get across. I think if I were to change any improvements, I'd maybe go for a colour scheme that was a bit darker and mysterious.

Music Magazine Analysis

Music Magazine

The genre  magazine is a Rock magazine.
The Mast head is Large and the name of the Magazine is a well know and trust worthy company. I would trust this magazine due to how popular it is, and the content of the magazine is something I would want to read about and draws to my attention as the reader. For the target audience which would people who are fans of Rock/ Punk music, this would meet their needs as it's dark, mysterious, and not colourful and vibrant like other music magazines. Also it only focuses on the wrists who produce Rock music, so readers would not have to buy a magazine which has pop or hip hop music in aswell.

The Cover Photo has a band on, called Green Day, who are quite a well know and large, rock band. This applies to the target audience who will know who this band are, as they are into that genre of music. It also draws them in, because it is such a well known band, readers will want to know all about why they are in this weeks/months magazine.
The colour scheme is quite simple and kept though out the whole of the magazine. The black and white are effective as they don't clash, and are are opposite sides of the spectrum. The font is very easy to read, which is good as you want to be able to read and know what is in the magazine before buying it. The mast head font, meets the characteristics off the 'Rock'  type, and it's quite rough and in a way looks like someone has just sprayed painted it on. The layout is simple with only a few subheadings on the cover. Quarter of the page is taken up by four other pictures, as the magazine isa advertising that is has  a 'Poster Special' in this issue. The Main heading tell us a bit more about why the Band Green day are on the cover, and has a quick and brief description. The use of the word 'YOU' draws the reader in, espciaclally if they are a fan of Green day, as they would be keen to know more facts about the said band.

I think the Magazine could be improved by using perhaps a different colour though out the magazine, so maybe instead of a Black, a Dark red which symbolises Blood and Danger. A colour that would also make the cover really standout from other magazines, as to me I think the cover is quite dull and personally doesn't standout another for me, because o the colours, so a dark, but vibrant colour would perhaps et more people reading the magazine.

Semitoics-The barcode- The Implied mean sing of the barcode is to, let the reader know how much the magazine is, what issue number it is on, which can show just how successful the magazine. Without the Barcode, you would one, not even be able to buy the magazine, and two the reader would not be able to find out the cost of the magazine, nor if it is successful from the number of issues it has had prior.

The mast head- The mast head tell us what the name of the magazine is. It is large so that it stands out more. It's bright swell to catch the readers eye. Without the Mast head being large and bright, many readers wouldn't pick it up due to it looking rather dull and boring, or it wouldn't catch their eye.

Magazine Anayalse

The Magazine would straightaway catch the eye of the target audience of young women. It for starters as a well known, and loved celebrity on the cover, who many young women look up to as as role model, Cheryl Cole.  The Hot Pink in the font, stereotypes that Pink is the colour associated with females, so you would not find a young male adult picking up this magazine in the shops.

The magazine also has the title ' Britian's No 1 women's magazine' which straight away tells the reader that magazine is a trustworthy one and that it has been voted the best by the women of Britain.

Mast head- The mast head is bright and eye catching. The colour scheme is simple but yet used thought out the whole magazine. It's larger than all the other texts.

Photo- The photo is large and is off a famous person who is connected to the magazine, as there is a article about her.
Colour- The colour scheme for this magazine is Pink, Black and white. These three colours all work well together and do not cancel each other out. The pink and black are used equally throughout the cover.Text- The titles of the other texts, are all different sizes. The most important or eye catching ones are in a larger and bolder font. Whilst the less important texts are in a smaller size and less inviting font.

Target Audience - The Target Audience is for young women age ranging from 16+.

To Improve the Magazine I think there could be a more variety of colour, as the magazine is quite bland with the white background. Perhaps the use of a light pastel colour, like a lilic or a pale pink would suite it. But as long as it did not wash away the font colurs.

Layout Connventions

Mast Head- The mast head is the 'main title' of the magazine so, for example 'Vouge' or 'Hello' are the mast head of their magazine. The mast head is larger than any of the other texts on the cover, so that it catches attention to the applied audience and will normally be a bright colour.

Photo- On every magazine there is a cover photo. The photo can be of a famous person who supports the magazine or there is an article about them in the magazine. If the magazine is genre is equine or cars, then the photo on the cover will be a Horse or a certain car. However sometimes the main photo can either be on the cover or on the context page on the inside of the cover.

Bar code- The bar code is always on the front cover, and normally will have how much the magazine costs, issue number, and the date of when it was published.

Fonts- Usually the fonts used will vary from 3-4 different types, but some magazines still use one type of font. The colour always varies, most magazines will keep to a certain colour scheme, using mostly bright or vibrant colours to catch the readers attention. Most magazine companies will use colours on different ends of the spectrum so that they don't cancel each other out.

Text- The main focus of the text is generally a lot smaller than the mast head. Also the other texts will have certain keywords to captivate the readers such as 'exclusive'.

Before and After Pictures Of First Magazine

Before and After Cover Pictures

Before : In this picture nothing is photoshoped. In this picture none of the blemishes or loose hairs have been edited out. The background is a dull colour and could d with some more colour. This picture would later be edited to Black and white and placed on a background. It relatively looks boring, and in need of colour and having improvements made .

Editing-

Here I've used the blemish tool to get rid of any blemishes, and any loose/unwanted hair on the magazine.I've then made the picture Black and White, using a colour contrast.

Here I've taken out the back ground and will replace it with a dark red one, which will bring out the picture and not cancel it out.

After: This is the finished product. The picture has been edited by removing blemishes by using the blemish remove tool, I also used the eraser tool to get rid of any loose hairs. I have placed a eye catching background and I'm using the colour scheme as Red and White. The master head is large , situated at the top of the magazine and simple so it catches the eye and then the under title captivates the reader by drawing them to something that they would want to read about. There is a barcode and a price at the bottom and top of the magazine cover, also there is an issue number, so it says to readers that this a successful magazine.
I decided to use the red and white colour scheme because I thought it worked best with the black and white picture. I also think it makes the cover look more mature and goes for the target audience of women, not teenagers. It didn't wash the picture out but instead contrasted it better and made the Magazine look more professional. I also didn't want the photo to take any anything from the magazine by being to bright  on the colour scheme hence why I choose to make edit the photo into Black and White. Readers should be automatically drawn to the cover because it does stand out from most other magazines.

However if I was too improve my cover, I may use a completely different colour scheme and see how that would work out. It might perhaps make the magazine look more inviting or more bright. I would also use a different picture, perhaps maybe a group one. I would also change the font to a bolder font that captivates the readers eyes more and use a plain background with no pattern on, i could have also maybe to improve it add pictures on of what the Titles are telling. I.E  For health and well being maybe a picture of someone running or a bowel of fruit.AfterThis is the finished product.
